Kennedy welcomes Highlands budget
2/10/2012
Highlands MP Charles Kennedy has welcomed the Highland Council’s new budget settlement, which has seen the council increase spending on roads, pupil support and elderly care while avoiding cuts, despite the difficult economic situation across the country.
Charles Kennedy said:
“I applaud the hard work of the Lib Dems on the Council who have delivered this budget, improving the services we need despite tough economic times.
“I’m particularly glad to see the extra £2 million being spent on road and drainage improvements. Nowhere do people rely on the roads more than in the Highlands, so I’m pleased that the council administration is taking them so seriously.”
The budget was agreed at a special session of the Council on Thursday.
