Kennedy urges PM to sign Charter to End Extreme Hunger
1/17/2012
Highland MP Charles Kennedy has written to Prime Minister David Cameron asking him to sign up to the Charter to End Extreme Hunger.

The Charter, written by a number of charities including Save the Children & Oxfam, provides a number of recommendations for ending poverty among the poorest people in the world.

Charles Kennedy said:

“The Coalition is doing the right thing by maintaining the foreign aid budget and meeting UN Development Goals. But we can’t rest on our laurels.

“The Charter to End Extreme Hunger provides five simple points which we should all agree on to stop disasters like the famine in East Africa recurring.

“I call on the PM to follow the Charter’s recommendations and help get Africa out of poverty.”

Andrew Mitchell, Secretary of State for International Development, has already indicated his support for the Charter in the House of Commons.
